Meetings Other Relevant Events
The First Asia-Pacific Coral Reefs Symposium (APCRS) was successfully organized by the Chinese University in Hong Kong in 2006 and the theme was ‘’Coral Reefs: Cooperation and Collaboration for Better Conservation ‘’. The Second symposium was held in Phuket, Thailand in 2010, hosted by the Ramkhamhaeng University in Thailand, and the theme was ‘’Collaboration for Coral Reef Conservation in a Changing Climate’’. These series of symposium provided a forum for scientists, educators, managers, environmentalists and relevant local stakeholders from key organizations in the Asia-Pacific region to share their knowledge and experiences on all aspects of coral reef biology, ecology, management, and conservation. The number of participants increased from 250 at the first symposium to 460 at the second one, representing more than 35 countries and regions. This tremendous increase in the number of participants shows the significance that the forum has brought to coral reef workers in our region. The symposium also serves as the founding congress of the Asia-Pacific Coral Reef Society. The National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium are proud to host the Third Asia-Pacific Coral Reefs Symposium in Pingtung, Taiwan from June 23-27 2014, and the theme is ‘’Challenges of Asia-Pacific Coral Reefs under the Changing Ocean’’.
