In 1995, the World Bank Environment Department’s Coastal and Marine Resources Team designed an Electronic Partnership Forum. This was a tool to enhance electronic communication between the Partnership’s members — a tool that evolved into the ICRI website.
Over the last two decades, financial support for development, management and improvement of the website has been provided by the United States of America, through its contribution to the United Nations Environment Programme.
More recently, support has been provided by the Government of Sweden and the Principality of Monaco.
The redesign of the ICRI website, launched on International Biodiversity Day in May 2020, was funded by the Australian Government.
