Online Course: Introduction to Coral Reef Management

Over the last few decades, the combination of global and local threats has resulted in major declines in reef health around the world. Understanding the causes of these declines and effective strategies to manage and monitor coral reefs is a priority for coral reef managers and practitioners, and the communities that depend on them.

The Introduction to Coral Reef Management Online Course is designed to provide marine managers and practitioners with the foundational knowledge necessary to support coral reef resilience. The free, globally accessible course consists of four lessons which take about five hours to complete:

  • Lesson 1: Coral Reef Ecology
  • Lesson 2: Threats to Coral Reefs
  • Lesson 3: Management Strategies for Resilience
  • Lesson 4: Assessing and Monitoring Reefs

Upon completion of the lessons and the course survey, participants will be able to download a Certificate of Completion.

The Introduction to Coral Reef Management Online Course was developed by the Reef Resilience Network in partnership with the International Coral Reef Initiative and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Coral Reef Conservation Program. This new course updates and builds on the Introduction to Coral Reef Resilience Course, which was launched in 2010 and updated in 2021.
