A new digital hub, the Coral Reef Rescue Portal, has been launched to help close the persistent gap between scientific research and on-the-ground decision-making in coral reef management. The platform provides trusted tools, data resources and learning opportunities designed to support governments, NGOs, local communities and field operators working to protect some of the world’s most climate-resilient reefs.
At the heart of the initiative is a simple goal: to make high-quality physical, ecological and socio-economic information more accessible to those managing coral reef ecosystems. By linking stakeholders with relevant datasets, monitoring platforms and digital tools, the portal promotes data-driven strategies, informed action and streamlined information sharing.
Users can also enrol in free, self-paced online courses to deepen their understanding of the role that data and monitoring play in effective reef conservation.
The portal is part of the broader Global Environment Facility (GEF) Coral Reef Rescue: Resilient Coral Reefs, Resilient Communities Project, funded by the GEF, and implemented by WWF. Operating in Fiji, Indonesia, Madagascar, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands and Tanzania, the project works to empower communities and strengthen local capacity to protect reefs in the face of accelerating climate pressures.
